5 reasons to watch The imperfections on Netflix

Reason 1. A nice change from other offerings for the same demographic

The imperfections is clearly aimed at Netflix’s more youthful demographic, and considering the usual fodder offered to this age group, this show seems quite refreshing. There’s not a single high school gang in sight! Whether Netflix produces them or not, series aimed at teens and slightly older tend to all seem like one and the same – The imperfections looks a little different, which is noteworthy.

Reason 2. The trailer has a whimsical charm

I had a hard time not liking the trailer while watching it. There’s something about it that makes you think it’s worth a watch. It somehow wears its heart on its sleeve; knows exactly what’s going on and isn’t shy, and I suppose given what the general themes are The imperfections are likely, that’s a really good way for the show to come across.

Reason 3. VFX doesn’t even look that bad

VFX has been a hit-or-miss lately, even if you ignore contextless screenshots from the latest MCU release. I was skeptical before watching the trailer here, but from what I’ve seen, I’d say things could be a lot worse. Obviously it’s the trailer and as such all examples will have been chosen fairly carefully but what is shown is enough for me to give this particular element the benefit of the doubt.

Reason 4. Looks like X-Men but with leanings toward more horror folklore

Mutant-centric movies and TV shows are never compared to X-Men, so it’s almost not even worth mentioning, other than how they’ll differ from this franchise. The imperfections seems to lean more towards horror folklore when it comes to his mutants, with a banshee, a chupacabra and a succubus taking center stage. The fact that the show looks like it could build on existing legends and mythologies increases my curiosity, I have to say.

Reason 5. Kim Garland

While not exactly a household name, Kim Garland seems to have plenty of experience when it comes to horror projects. The imperfections It looks like one of their first major ventures, but hey – just because someone is at the beginning of their journey doesn’t mean you should write them off as a total greenhorn. Her IMDB bio is interesting to read – some might say she was born to do horror, which is certainly a good sign.

You can watch this series with a Netflix subscription.
