They cloned Tyrone is an upcoming Netflix sci-fi movie starring John Boyega (war of stars) and Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained). The film will be the directorial debut of creed 2 Writer Juel Taylor. Taylor co-wrote the film with Tony Rettenmaier (The Light Thief).
The film is being produced by Charles D. King, Poppy Hanks and their production company Macro, which is also behind Netflix raise Dion. Macro specializes in representing people of color in the film and television industries. As detailed on its website, the company has garnered nine Oscar nominations and one win for its numerous productions since its inception in 2015.
When will They cloned Tyrone be released on Netflix?

The release date of They cloned Tyrone was first included in Netflix’s 2022 Movie Preview earlier this year.
In August 2022, Netflix officially unveiled its fall 2022 lineup, which was notably ruled out They cloned Tyrone. We were told that the 2022 film has been pushed back (probably slated for a 2023 release).
However, according to reports, Netflix will release They cloned Tyrone on December 30, 2022, according to a fall 2022 preview published by The New York Times.
We’ve reached out to Netflix to confirm the release date, but they haven’t responded yet.

What is the plot of They cloned Tyrone?
Here is the official description of the film:
“A goofy sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigate a series of sinister events and alert them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking just under their hoods. Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer, is shot dead by his rival Isaac and is then shocked to wake up unharmed in his bed the next morning. He and Slick Charles and Yo-Yo begin investigating the incident, and their search eventually leads them to a vast underground complex where a government-backed lab is conducting experiments on the local black population. When Fontaine realizes he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon, he is at first distraught, but then decides that for the good of his neighborhood he must stand up to these white institutional overlords.”

The script was included in The Black List 2019, a portal for filmmakers to share and rate scripts. You can also read Script Shadow’s detailed review of the script here. According to them: “What is unique about They cloned Tyrone is that it mixes comedy and sci-fi, but it’s also R-rated.”
In an interview with ComingSoon.net, John Boyega teased the film as a “stateside version of Attack the block‘ and added: ‘It’s his [Juel Taylor’s] first feature film, but there’s a reason it’s attracted the likes of Jamie Foxx to his project. The script is phenomenal.”
Who is thrown in They cloned Tyrone?

The upcoming sci-fi movie stars John Boyega, best known for his role as Finn in the latest Star Wars trilogy. Boyega plays Tyrone Fontaine, the neighborhood drug dealer mentioned in the synopsis above. Boyega said in an interview that he was very excited to be working on They Cloned Tyrone.
“I’m just going home for a moment. That’s for example in the States Attack the block To me. I’m just beyond excited to see a tiny little hood go through an alien experience. I’ve just come from two intense projects. Chase Palmers Naked singularity…and then Steve McQueen’s Small ax. So They cloned Tyrone is just a chance for me to have fun… and relax.”
The film’s other two leads are Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx, known for his roles in beam, Django Unchained, baby driver, and more. Foxx plays Slick Charles, an acquaintance of Fontaine and sex worker broker. Finally, Teyonah Parris will play Yo-Yo, Charles’ top sex worker. Parris is known for her roles on Showtime’s mad MenNetflix dear whites, and she will appear in the coming candy man Film and the Disney+ series WandaVision.
What is the production status They cloned Tyrone?
production for They cloned Tyrone began on November 9, 2020 at Blackhall Studios, Atlanta. Filming is expected to continue through the winter, ending on January 29th. Production is also slated to take place in Cape Town, South Africa.
In mid-January 2021, DailyMail managed to snap some early footage of the film with their dads revealing the actors’ costumes and makeup.
